Cruising In Roatán

Roatan in Honduras

Roatán, a popular cruise destination, is an island in the Caribbean off the northern coast of Honduras. It is located between the islands of Útila and Guanaja, and it’s the largest of the bay islands of Honduras.

The island was formerly known in English as Ruatan and Rattan.

Did you know???

The island consists of two municipalities: José Santos Guardiola in the east and Roatán, including the Cayos Cochinos, further south in the west.

Language: official language is Spanish, but with many people speaking English in the tourist areas, you will not need much help finding your way around.

Rich in cultural heritage and considered home to one of the best diving and snorkeling locations, we have compiled a list of the top things to do in Roatan:

West Bay Beach

Ranked as one of the best beaches in the world! Shallow water that allows you to go far out, great for underwater exploration and for those amazing pictures.

West End Village

Also referred to as “The Strip”, West End is unique for its layout and the people. The village is a tourist hotspot-a mini metropolis- with hotels, restaurants, bars, artisan markets, and plenty of water-based activities. Half the town is fronted by Half Moon Bay, a perfectly crescent-shaped, palm-lined beach. You can spend your day enjoying the strip and the night with fun happy hours with live bands. It’s a lively atmosphere.

Monkey and Sloth Hangout

This unique island attraction is a must for exotic animal lovers wishing to interact with Roatan sloths, Capuchin Monkeys, Scarlet Macaws, and parrots! You can pet and hold them and snap a few photos.

Mana Wakie Eco Nature Park

Located on the north side of Roatan, Honduras, in the mist of the jungle in the community of Man O War Harbor, near the West Bay Beach. This park is home for many different exotic animals. If you are a history & animal person, you will have the chance to discover the old history landmark and culture of the islanders. After the tour of the park is done, you will be guided to the beach where you can spend the rest of the day lounging by the sea.

Garifuna Historical Tour

For history enthusiasts, this tour is great to discover the history, customs/traditions and culture of Roatan’s native Garifuna people. You will be able to visit the Garifuna Culture Center to see a demonstration of their native dance and more.

Horseback Riding

Horse and nature, what a combo! In Roatan riders will enjoy a horseback swim in the warm waters of the Caribbean and ride within the interior rainforest canopy during the tour.

Lastly, but not less important,

Snorkeling/Scuba

Roatan is famous for its incredible offshore reefs. You can scuba diving or snorkel to see the tropical creatures in shallow waters.
